Aquatics

People through the ages have swum across lakes and rivers , but it wasn’t until the 19th century that the first organised races took place, when the National Swimming Society of Great Britain was created.

The four Aquatics disciplines which are Swimming, Diving, Synchronised Swimming and Water Polo have been around for no longer than 200 years as an actual competitive sport.

Aquatics featured in the programme for the first modern Olympic Games in Athens 1896, Paris 1900 and St Louis 1904 and believe it or not there were actually no official rules or standards at this time.

The Federation Internationale de Natation (FINA) was formed during the London 1908 Olympic Games competition to act as a governing body for the sport.
